As a Lottery Monitor for The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Simon is overseeing the £8m restoration of magnificent but derelict Grade II* Sheerness Dockyard Church on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent. The church, which stands at the entrance to the former Royal Dockyard, was seriously damaged by fire in 2001 and is one of the most important buildings at risk in the south east of England. The project will repair and renovate the church for a range of uses including a business enterprise centre for young people, a community café and changing display for the grate Dockyard Model.

Works have commenced on site with the church planned to open to the public in 2022.
