The Mease Spencer Academy, Hilton, Derbyshire

Cumming Group, under the name of Prosurv, were appointed as Project Manager, Cost Consultant and Employer’s Agent to oversee the construction of a single-form entry primary school at Hilton, Derbyshire, which was part of an agreement between St. Modwen Developments and Derbyshire County Council. The clients’ brief was to deliver a one form, single-storey primary school with an initial capacity for 210 pupils (but with potential to expand in the future), and to do it on programme and within the contract sum. The proposed primary school was situated within a five-acre site with a classroom for each year group and a series of core spaces. Cumming Group procured and appointed the full consultant team, including the architect, civil and structural engineer, M&E consultant and planning consultant.

Following the successful completion of the scheme, the school offered seven classrooms, a sports hall, a fitted-out production kitchen, a library, a football pitch and an all-weather multi-use games area. The facility has been specifically designed to enable use by the local community during school holidays and out-of-school hours, and was built in partnership with Derbyshire County Council and Spencer Academy to achieve a 21st century teaching facility. The project was completed in August 2019.

“We have been delighted to work alongside Prosurv who have delivered our new school.  Throughout the build, from ground level to final product, the team have ensured that all stakeholders have had the opportunity to engage and participate in all aspects of the work, keeping us well informed at every stage.  They have been diligent and thorough, ensuring that the end result is of the highest quality.  We are absolutely delighted with the school which offers a state of the art, fabulous learning environment for our pupils.”
