National Lottery Heritage Fund, Four-Year Framework, Multiple Locations, UK
Project Description
As Monitoring Surveyor, Cumming, under the name Prosurv, are advising the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) on the risks associated with their four-year framework, while also helping to mentor and guide applicants through the NLHF development process. Commissions range from general project management to specific areas such as procurement, construction management, and business planning. Our role is to ensure that the Approved Purposes, as defined by the NLHF in the funding agreement, are fully delivered whilst ensuring best practices and maximum value for money.
Cumming are currently overseeing the £11 million restoration of the 150-year-old Rochdale Town Hall, a Grade 1-listed masterpiece. This is one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in the UK, with historic interior features including the Magna Carta mural and the ceiling panels in the Great Hall. The project will open up areas of the building that were not previously accessible to the public, add new community areas, and create a new exhibition space celebrating Rochdale and its people. The works will also include transforming the public realm for major events and adding terracing to provide full accessibility. The first phase has commenced and the building is on schedule to re-open in 2023.
Cumming are also overseeing the £8 million restoration of the magnificent Grade II* Sheerness Dockyard Church on the Isle of Sheppey, Kent. The church, which stands at the entrance to the former Royal Dockyard, was seriously damaged by fire in 2001 and is one of the most important buildings at risk in the southeastern region of England. The project will repair and renovate the church for a range of uses, including a business enterprise centre for young people and a community café. It will also feature a changing display for the great Dockyard Model. Works have commenced on site with the church planned to open to the public in 2022.
