Daniel Smith, a Director in our Stoke office has recently received some fantastic feedback on career support he offers in the local community.

Daniel has been volunteering as an Enterprise Advisor for Stoke & Staffordshire Careers Hub for 3 years. The Hub is made up of 85 local schools and colleges working together with local employers, universities and training providers to offer young people support with their career decision making when leaving school. Daniel works closely with local secondary school, St. Thomas More Catholic Academy in Longton, to support the school with the development of their Careers Programme as well as spending time with the students to inform and motivate them about careers in surveying and the opportunities available to them.

Victoria Kerr, Lead Practitioner at St Thomas More Catholic Academy said “I wanted to share with you some of the measurable impact Dan’s visits to school had. When collecting in annual careers responses from the year 13 students, two of the students have now identified Quantity Surveying as their chosen career pathway, and a further six students identifying civil/structural engineering. These students had previously been unsure on their chosen career areas, but from the information gained over through the careers programme and information and support from Dan, they have been able to make an informed decision.”

Daniel added – “Engaging and motivating the students at St. Thomas More is an incredibly rewarding role. I am delighted to hear that the time I have spent with the school over the past 3 years is encouraging future talent to follow a career in surveying or the construction industry. Although Cumming Group work nationwide, I enjoy being able to give something back to the local community and I look forward to continuing my relationship with St. Thomas More and sharing my knowledge and experience with future students
